The North Face mercurial reversible jacket is an award winning design with integrated “baffle” system. Simply put: “worn black side out, the jacket works like a conventional insulated performance top, but as temperatures climb – on a glacier for example – the jacket can be reversed with the aluminium-coated silver side reflecting approximately 40 per-cent more of the sun’s rays than the black surface”.
Furthermore, the baffle system works by trapping air-in when in insulation mode but, in reverse, the same system allows airflow, providing cooling.
Simple design that appears to work very well.

Burton have announced that it provide snowboard outerwear for the U.S. Snowboarding Team at the Vancouver 2010 Olympics. Burton will, most likely, collaborate with its long standing partners W. L. Gore & Associates leveraging the performance benefits of GORE-TEX® fabric, the official fabric of the 2010 U.S. Snowboarding Team’s Olympic outerwear.
Two big heavyweight sports brands collaborating is always a good sign. Particularly when it is towards an elite sport goal. Although the design of snowboard jackets has yet to be optimised for the sport, fashion as to date always taken precedence, it is great to see that superior and functional technologies such as GORE-TEX® are being incorporated.
